I can’t believe it’s come to an end. Five weeks on the road with a toddler in tow is a lifetime, but still, like everything in life, you blink… and it’s gone. We have spent this past seven days filling our days with the fresh Canadian air of the country life, the cold almost-snow air of the mountains… we walked the city streets in the freezing cold, I walked for seven kilometers, just drinking in the culture, the sights, the sounds, the smells of a big, beautiful, eclectic city. We walked the halls of the ROM, we watched movies about global warming and roared at the dinosaurs. We had tea parties in the discovery centre and we ate hotdogs on the subway. We laughed and we sang and we cried and we hugged friends and had dinner with family. We had lunch in a brilliant kids cafe, complete with new friends and children and wooden toys and snack plates and craft tables and dinosaur tails… I mean come-on!! How could either of us ever want to leave?
There is always so much to see. So much to do. So many experiences just calling out to us. Apples to be picked, pumpkin pie to be eaten, apple cider to drink and to warm your icy hands on a cold fall day. There is just so much… every where in the world. So much to discover, no wonder we find it hard to sit still…
We begin our long journey home today. It will take us the better part of three days to get home from this great land. I love to travel. To explore the world. To discover a taste of a world unlike my own. I could easily stay away from home for months on end, but when I know the return journey is coming, I ready myself for it. I start thinking about our own space. Our own beds. Our own world. It’s always a bit of a struggle to hang on to the inspiration that travel brings after heading home… but I’m hanging on a little tighter this time… I can feel change in the air. Can’t you?
Have a beautiful weekend, friends. I hope you’re on an adventure all of your own… even if it’s just a trip to the corner store or a walk on the wild side. Whatever it is, I hope it inspires you.
You deserve it. We all do.
