A very quick DIY this week, as the (perhpas-not-as-well-planned-as-it-should-have-been) beginning of a new segment on inked – thrifty DIY Thursday… how to upcycle, recycle or breathe new life into something old.
When Bo started standing a few months ago, clothes with enclosed feet became a hazard. She would slip and slide and without-out fail bang and bump her head on something. When kids start walking its so important that they can grip the ground. But so many baby clothes are made with feet attached, makes sense really… except when they start to stand.
I’d hate to not get good use out of the clothes that have been purchased for or handed down to Bo. It would seem like a terrible waste to just go out and buy more (feet-less) when she already has lots of clothes that still fit her perfectly.
So I guess you have two options. Cut the feet off or somehow create a grip on the bottom of them. I went with the latter. The solution, I discovered, was simple. All you need is a tube of puffy paint from your local craft store. I drew the puffy paint on the sole of the feet and left it to dry a good 24 hours before giving Bo a trial run. And run she did. No slipping!
Problem solved!

Jess - Clever Mumma! 🙂
Rachel - This is such a good idea and she looks SO grown up in that photo – like she became a toddler overnight!
Tasha - Great idea!! But will it wash off in the washer??
Janelle - Cute idea! I’ll file this away for when I have bebes
Michelle - Reminds me of when I was a child, decorating t-shirts and other things with puffy paint 😀 Great to see it’s still around and very useful too!
Lilybett - Tasha, most puff paints should stick even with washing, but a cold wash will make them crack faster. Best advice would be to warm wash and possibly even stick them in a lingerie bag or a pillow case. Or you could handwash.
A trip to the zoo | thegreenwoodpecker - […] this weekend, following numerous slips and falls and inevitable crying I was inspired by this post to sort out the baby socks and turn all of the into non-slip socks, a quick and fun DIY all […]
Alicia - This is such a clever idea! My son has just started to walk and he can really benefit from those non-slip socks.I’ll try it out! Thanks Sash.
