The long road home.

After a long day in transit, Bo and I are officially home. Back in the little house surrounded by rice fields, back with the smell of salt and the sticky tropical air, and most importantly our little family is reunited.

These night flights followed by long drives are absolute killers for me, as it means a minimum of 24 hours with no sleep. The past few days were certainly no exception. Bo was lovely as usual, though I’m starting to realise that we are well and truly past the easier times for travel. Putting Bo on her first plane at nine weeks old was a breeze. Now at a little over four months, she’s still very good, but it’s getting more taxing. The day we left Perth Bo decided to learn a new trick… this trick involved shrieking like a pterodactyl as loud as she possibly could. So at around 4 am in the morning, somewhere in the airspace between Australia and Indonesia Bo let out three ear piercing shrieks that ended in a fit of giggles – and then a projectile vomit that went all down my chest and across my black jeans. Needless to say I was smelling pretty fantastic for the rest of the flight.

Landing in Jakarta at ass-oclock 6am is a pretty good time to get in, it’s not too hot yet and there isn’t much traffic in the immigration line so thankfully we moved through the motions pretty quickly. I’ve started hiring a porter, to pick up and carry my bags and push my trolley for me when we get there. I’ve traveled a lot in Indonesia and across Asia and have never done this before – I’ve always been a bit of a basics-only traveler. But with a baby strapped to my body, and for the equivalent of AUS$2 I can certainly see the value in it now.

Bo gave her dad the biggest smile and giggle when she saw him at the airport, reminding me exactly why we have sacrificed so much to keep us all together – family is what matters most.

And then after 12 hours in the car… at 7pm last night (or there abouts) we arrived back home.

We have a few exciting things in the works over the next couple of days. Including a really great give-away to celebrate Breastfeeding Awareness week… it’s an awesome gift that I’m so lucky to get to give to one of my readers. So stay tuned, it’s just around the corner.
