Not in my name.

notinmynamePIN ITI never thought that my country’s leaders would be responsible for placing people in concentration camps ever again. Yet here we are… Pushing people into concentration camps. People who have escaped unstable and unsafe countries in the search for a better life. People who have risked to come here, to us, where they believed they would be safe. And we do this to them. We are creating a concentration of people who are disenchanted and disenfranchised. A concentration of people who are given no civil liberties and who are being denied many basic human rights. A concentration of people who deserve better.

Not in my name. Mr Abbott. Not in my name.

I never thought I would live in a country where our leader threatened the very nature of our national broadcast system, damning them for “taking sides” and “not siding with the home team”… when reporting facts about the shocking behaviour of our Australian government. Speculation has surfaced stating that the Australian government will cut funding to our the media body that we have that is the least corrupt. Because our they hurt our PM’s feelings? Seriously? What country is this again?

What will our grandchildren be taught about this dark period in Australian history? The era of concentration camps and shark culling, the era of the damage of the Great Barrier Reef and the complete and utter disregard for the poor and the disabled. So much for Aussies looking out for the little guy… apparently we don’t do that anymore.

And what will WE say to them when they ask us what we did about it? We know better than this. Surely we should be doing better too.

Not in my name. Mr Abbott. Not in my name.

If you agree with any of this and you feel that our country is being lead down a terrible slope… please, please, please attend a March in March protest in your local area. We can’t all be couch activists forever, to make a change we really do need to stand up and let our voices be heard… to speak for those who are not given the voice to speak for themselves.

Not in my name. Mr Abbott. Not in my name.

If you are as upset as I am about the inhumane culling of Sharks that is going on right now just kilometers from our seaside home, then I urge you to speak out and attend a march in your local area on Saturday. Bo and I will be at our local beach, showing our support for the activists who are working tirelessly to stop this cruel practice that is taking place off our shores. Our politicians have brashly stated that there is nothing that we (the people) can do to stop the cull.

Let’s do everything we can to prove them wrong.

Sash - I honestly have no idea… but it’s changing the very makeup of our society and it’s terrifying. People are just following along… everyone who feels opposed to this needs to speak out, otherwise, everyone will just think it’s ok. And it’s really, really not.ReplyCancel

Alicia - I used to work with Australians in the UK and they were the nicest people I’d ever worked with. They were kind, friendly, generous and so forgiving. My English was really really poor at the time and they didn’t seem to mind that.. they were just talking to me as if I was one of them… no one ever gave me as much courage to be myself as your fellows… I hope that your government will snap out of this silliness because you are truly wonderful human beings and I really wouldn’t like you to change.ReplyCancel
