Have you been looking for some baby-friendly summer treats that are delicious no matter your age? Bo and I have been indulging in some sweet treats over the past few weeks. Wonderful refreshing treats that cool us down and taste a bit naughty (to satisfy my own sweet tooth) but there is absolutely nothing in them at all but all natural goodness.
Good for your body. Good for your hip pocket.
Banana “ice-cream” pops.
Take a bunch of smallish bananas and cut them in half. Stick a popstick into the flesh. roll in a little bit of lemon juice and wrap in plastic wrap and freeze.
That’s it. Delicious.
You can also dip them in natural yoghurt before you freeze them – then pop them in a plastic container in the freezer instead. So easy! We’ve always got them in the freezer, they are very soothing for sore teething gums too.
Banana Mango “icecream”
Freeze some bananas and/or some mango cheeks – other fruits probably work well too, but these I’ve found have the best texture to come up with an “ice-cream” consistency. When you feel like a cool treat just pop the frozen pieces in the blender and blend until smooth. It takes a little while but it’s worth it. This is my personal favourite!
Eat it quickly before it melts! You can also add a couple of tablespoons of yoghurt or coconut milk when you blend for a creamer taste.
Frozen Yoghurt pops.
We do a lot of these. I use the little reusable baby plastic cups and put some of our homemade yoghurt mixed with fruit in there with half a pop-stick. It makes them perfect baby-size for Bo and easy for her to handle. It gets really messy but she LOVES them.
I find this is a great way to reuse any left over yoghurt from dinner or breakfast. I just pour the leftover from her bowl into a freezer cup and then I can give it to her again later in the day in it’s “new form”
Any pureed fruit is also pretty good, just like the yoghurt pop, just put it in a little freezer cup with a stick in it making it easy enough to hold onto for little fingers.
I haven’t done it with vegetables but there really isn’t any reason why you couldn’t. Spinach and strawberry? Weird or delicious? I’d have to try it and see.
Do you have any great summery treats that are little people friendly and free from the unnecessary extras?
